Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
See Weakley et al. (2018a) for detailed discussion of the taxonomy of the "blue Baptisias".
This is one of a handful of "prairie plants" in NC -- species whose main range lies in high pH prairie-like or glade-like habitats west of the Appalachians -- and one of the state's most beautiful wildflowers. Read more at Vascular Plants of North Carolina.
The “aberrans” entity has been lumped into either “minor” or “australis,” it has been treated as a variety of both “minor” and “australis,” and it has been judged to be “the first of the trio to diverge independently”, per Weakley's Flora (2022)
For an in-depth treatment, peruse A monograph of the genus Baptisia (Larisey, 1940).

If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
